Dr. Elie Bursztein is a Distinguished Scientist at Google/DeepMind, where he focuses on AI for cybersecurity and the security of AI systems. He previously led Google's security and anti-abuse team for over a decade, protecting billions of users across Gmail, Google Account, Chrome, and Android.
Before Google, Elie was a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, where he worked on web security and offensive security with Dan Boneh and John Mitchell. His research has spanned cryptography (contributing to crypto in Chrome and the famous SHA-1 collision), AI for security (Gmail spam classifiers, malware detection, Magika), and the security of AI including Google's SAIF (Secure AI Framework).
Throughout his career, Elie has been involved in numerous groundbreaking projects including Gmail, Drive, Account Security, Android, Ads, Waymo, Chromebook, Pixel, and Gemini. This breadth of experience across different products and scales has given him unique insights into what makes innovation succeed or fail.
